About Us
ScienceDays is a mentoring program to foster scientific curiosity in
elementary school students by engaging them in hands-on learning
opportunities beyond the ordinary classroom experience. The program
aims to create a national network of enthusiastic high school and
college mentors who are dedicated to making a difference in their
communities through promoting science education. We are a
nationally recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
ScienceDays,
Inc. is a nationally recognized 501 (c) non-profit after-school
enrichment program for elementary and middle school students in the
United States and Canada. Since being founded by Lucie Guo and Xianlin Li
in 2004, ScienceDays, Inc. is comprised of 27 active chapters in the
United States and Canada which provide students a chance to explore
science and math
concepts more in depth through experimentation, hands on activities,
and field
trips. ScienceDays, Inc. Cambridge Chapter provides educational
services to local schools in the Boston/Cambridge area by giving
lectures on pursuing STEM field careers, scientific demonstrations,
hosting Science Fairs, and other activities. ScienceDays, Inc.
Cambridge Chapter also has an after-school program at Boston Latin
School and Harvard College which provides elementary and middle
school students more opportunities to explore STEM fields through
various activities which meet the Massachusetts State Science
Education Guidelines for elementary and middle school students.
ScienceDays,
Inc. Cambridge Chapter also addresses the lack of female and minority
students
who gravitate towards the fields of science and mathematics through
introducing participants to the opportunities available to them in the
fields
of mathematics and science. Students will attend special presentations
and
lectures by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard
University, Wellesly College, Boston University (BU), and Northeastern
University professors and
students. Middle school participants will also attend college workshops
where they will learn
about future education opportunities, scholarships, and planning for
the future.
ScienceDays,
Inc. Cambridge Chapter utilizes several technology tools to expose
students to science and mathematics and expand outreach activities to
the International level. ScienceDays, Inc. has a YouTube Channel which
allows Chapters and Chapter Directors to upload videos to be shared and
discussed. Videos range from scientific demonstrations to tutorials,
lessons, interviews with Professors in STEM fields, and exclusive
footage of International Science and Engineering Fair and other events.
ScienceDays, Inc. also has an interactive website which allows
participants, educators, and other interested individuals to watch
video lessons from ScienceDays iTunes Podcast (which is available for
download on iTunes free of charge or other portable media players),
download PowerPoint Presentations, and fun videos. ScienceDays, Inc.
after-school program participants can access their classwork, homework,
activities and videos for further exploration, grades, take quizzes
online, and submit assignments online through HotChalk. The adoption of
these technology tools have allowed students to have more options in
exploring science and mathematics.
ScienceDays,
Inc. Cambridge Chapter is trying to expand its impact in the
Boston/Cambridge area by starting a 'ScienceDays, Inc. Summer Camp' for
Summer 2009. This summer camp will be the week of August 10-15, 2009 in
Cambridge, MA for approx. 100 middle school students in the
Boston/Cambridge area. Camp participants will visit a local university, talk with professors and various students, explore various science topics through experimentation, and development of computer skills.
