Netia McCray, Program Director MIT Class of 2012 Email: Mccray.netia@sciencedays.org
- The former Tallahassee Chapter Director of ScienceDays provided an
after-school program for female middle school students
focused on science and mathematics. Their activities
for the 07-08 year have included field trips and a
science fair. The chapter has also been profiled in
news outlets such as The Tallahassee Democrat and WCTV.
In
leading the Tallahassee chapter of ScienceDays, Netia follows the
vision that "the current and potential problems that the world will
face within the next decade will directly affect this generation.
ScienceDays hopes to change this by exposing young girls to the wonders
and mysteries of science and mathematics, hopefully persuading some to
pursue a career in mathematics and science or obtain a strong
background in science and mathematics". The Tallahassee Chapter of
ScienceDays has received numerous awards including:
- Leon County Schools Volunteer of the Year 2008
- Tallahassee Democrat Volunteer of the Year Finalist 2008
- NAACP Youth/College Award 2008
